Welcome to the Net Zero Show Ireland! This exciting NEW event will take place on 4-5 March 2026 at the RDS (Hall 2).

The Net Zero Show Ireland brings together public and private sector professionals, policymakers and industry leaders to exchange knowledge and best practices for achieving net zero within the built environment.

This show provides a platform for stakeholders to discuss strategies, share experiences and collaborate on innovative solutions to decarbonise the built environment, supporting Ireland's ambitious climate objectives.

Attendance at the conference and exhibition is free for leaders and their teams from across the public sector. However, private sector attendees wishing to participate in the conference sessions will be subject to delegate rates.

Climate Action Plan 2024: Built Environment

Key targets:

  • All new dwellings designed and constructed to Nearly Zero Energy Building standard by 2025, and Zero Emission Building standard by 2030
  • Equivalent of 120,000 dwellings retrofitted to BER B2 or cost optimal equivalent by 2025, and 500,000 dwellings by 2030
  • Up to 0.8 TWh of district heating installed capacity across both the residential and commercial building stock by 2025, and up to 2.7 TWh by 2030
  • 170,000 new dwellings using heat pumps by 2025, and 280,000 by 2030
  • 45,000 existing dwellings using heat pumps by 2025, and 400,000 by 2030
  • Up to 0.6 TWh of heating provided by biomethane by 2025, and up to 1.1 TWh by 2030
  • Delivery of savings of 0.735 KtCO2eq. in public and commercial buildings

The built environment, comprising residential, public, and commercial sectors, accounted for 11.1% of Ireland’s greenhouse gas emissions in 2022, with fossil fuels supplying 72.6% of residential energy, mainly for heating. Decarbonising this sector requires coordinated efforts across society, supported by government regulations, funding, and incentives, as well as long-term policy clarity for stakeholders.

Transitioning to renewable energy will reduce emissions, enhance energy security, and mitigate rising costs, though challenges such as affordability and reliance on fossil fuel infrastructure remain significant. Energy efficiency, prioritised in the 2023 Energy Efficiency Directive, is key to reducing demand, with many households already adopting measures like insulation, smart technology, and heat pumps.
